SUM - The Camden Fringe Festival

A world that will change the concepts of self, of others, of love, of death...
This is just the pilot.
Following the pioneering technology of the new hivemind, we follow the stories of six women in their experiences of this new life. Who will thrive and more importantly, who will survive?

SUM depicts characters who have entered this contract to share these minds between them in a much more intimate way than the illusions that our social media now provide. They question concepts that we have accepted since time began – love, birth, war and loss – and still manage to find their own journeys despite the information that has been shared. Who is the pioneer of the technology? Who will use it for good (whatever that means in this reality), and who will use it to further their own ends? Should everyone be able to connect?

Performed at The Etcetera theatre as part of the Camden Fringe Festival.

CAST
Carrie/Lan - Lydia Kay
Syne - Melanie Crossey
Sam - Rosie Akerman
Pi - Tess Hardy
Law - Susan Gray

Written by Susan Gray.
Directed by Lydia Kay.
Lighting by Daniel Shortland (designed by Lydia Kay).
28th - 30th August 2015

Hiveminds are becoming increasingly in vogue at the moment – and maybe the more specific question we should be asking is “what is happening in our world to make us think this” rather than simply “why”.

As Part of the WORLDS APART festival:
Picture
In a cursed land ruled by tradition, there will always be those who desire change. As tensions run high the people risk forgetting the history that binds them; the execution of Asatira, an innocent woman who condemned the land to 500 years of darkness in penance for their actions. Requests become a revolution as the Hunapo curse draws to an end, and protests are transformed into riots. In a tale of love, bitterness and torn loyalties; will they learn from their mistakes or will there be a more dire consequence? You cannot escape the curse of your culture.

Performed in 'Within the Wall'
Why Wall? Why border? Why divide? For centuries, all over the world, people have chosen to build walls to separate their land from another. Some walls are built to keep them out, and some to keep you in. Some walls are put in place to keep the peace, but can peace be kept by force? Our piece explores these barriers, what the wall means to those it divides and how bricks and mortar can control your life. The children of the borders, the incredible escapes, and the endless life behind barriers. As free citizens, able to travel throughout this country and others, can we imagine life in the shadow of the wall?
